Austin Shakespeare stages livestream production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’

-

For its annual production on the Zilker Hillside Stage, this year Austin Shakespeare had planned to do the Bard’s magical comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

But like all things for the performing arts in 2020, the park show was cancelled. And now, Austin Shakespeare will present a version of the show live online Oct. 22-25.

Against virtual backgrounds by created by design talent Lowell Bartholomee, and including live music and dance, the “Midsummer” show will go on.

And yes, there will be fanciful costumes too. Aaron Kubacak designed whimsical costumes with “fantastical fairies with headdresses that light up,” he said. There’s also hints of steam punk and gender play.
