After a decade of serving as the anchor tenant at the Canopy arts complex, Big Medium is leaving the East Austin hub at 916 Springdale Road.
Big Medium’s last exhibition will be the Tito’s Prize show featuring Tammie Rubin which opens in March.
In an email to supporters, Big Medium leader Shea Little said the non-profit looks forward to using its experience “to build another arts complex in the future and our permanent home. Our plans will take some years to achieve, in the meantime, we will be relocating to a new temporary home.”
Details of Big Medium’s temporary home are forthcoming, Little said. “We are excited about our big changes and our future vision for Big Medium.”
The non-profit has been a key presence at Canopy, assisting with the artist studio rentals program in the converted warehouse complex. Canopy is home to dozen of artist studios as well as several galleries.
As presenters of the popular Austin Studio Tour (formerly the East Austin Studio Tour and the West Austin Studio Tour), Big Medium turned canopy into popular arts destination.
