Eight Austin artists have been selected to participate in the Contemporary Austin’s Crit Group program, the museum announced recently.

The eight were selected from a pool of more than 80 applicants.

Open to Travis County artists at any career level, Crit Group is a free career development program that involves monthly meetings that may be art critiques or one-on-one studio visits and a series of discussion sessions about topics including writing an effective artist’s statement, applying for grants and residencies, arts marketing and creating a good work-life balance.

The 2020 Crit Group will culminate in a group exhibition at Austin’s grayDUCK Gallery, opening on August 8 and on view through Sept. 6, 2020.

Making the selection were Crit Group co-leaders artist Sterling Allen, noted independent curator Annette DiMeo Carlozzi, and Andrea Mellard, the Contemporary’s director of public programs.

“I am incredibly proud of the way Austin’s artistic community has embraced The Contemporary Austin’s Crit Group program,” said Mellard. “It is an honor to witness the artists take risks, push their work forward, and support one another through this process. I congratulate the 2020 Crit Group class and look forward to getting to know them and their work in the coming months.”
