Tapping the diversity of Austin’s music community, the University of Texas’ public art program Landmarks, has launched “Listening to Landmarks,” a series of playlists inspired by public art works on campus.
Two genre-crossing playlists will be launched each month on Spotify, and also made available on the Landmarks web site and social channels.
Musical notables who have created playlists include KUT radio host John Aielli; composers Graham Reynolds and Steve Parker; Austin Symphony director Peter Bay; opera vocalist Liz Cass and singer Tameca Jones.
Others are Emilio Alvarez, Stephanie Bergara, Molly Burch, Morgan Davis, Gavin Garcia, Nick Gregg, Matthew Hinsley, Hovvd, David Hunter, Walker Lukens, Lesly Reynaga, Steve Savage, Sara Schneider and Patrick Slevin.
First up is a playlist by Austin blues guitarist and vocalist Jackie Venson with music responding to Magdalena Abakanowicz’s Figure on a Trunk, a bronze sculpture of a headless figure standing on a bench.
