NEA awards $2.6 million to Texas arts groups

The National Endowment for the Arts announced its second round of Fiscal Year 2020 funding, with Texas receiving 54 grants totaling $2,623,300.

As part of the NEA’s regular regional partnership program, the Texas Commission on the Arts received $1,087,800 of the Texas allocation.

The current grants were submitted in summer 2019 and approved at the end of March 2020, before the NEA began distributing emergency relief grants through the CARES Act. Organizations in this current round were asked to adjust their projects to meet the new reality created by the coronavirus pandemic.

The 18 Austin area arts organizations that received NEA funding in this round are:

  • Austin Chamber Music Center — $45,000
  • Austin Children’s Museum — $20,000
  • Austin Classical Guitar Society — $80,000
  • Austin Film Festival — $15,000
  • Austin Film Society —$20,000
  • Austin Opera—  $25,000
  • Austin Symphony — $25,000
  • Austin Theatre Alliance (aka Paramount and Stateside Theatres) — $95,000
  • Ballet Austin — $10,000
  • Blue Lapis Light — $10,000
  • Collide Arts — $35,000
  • Conspirare — $40,000
  • Contemporary Austin — $35,000
  • Forklift Dance — $10,000
  • Fusebox Festival — $30,000
  • KMFA — $15,000
  • Mindpop— $54,000
  • Motion Media Arts Center/Austin Cinemaker Space — $15,000
  • Texas Folklife Resources  — $40,000
