Indie dance troupe Ventana Ballet will take its re-imagining of The Nutcracker, to the drive-in this year.
“‘The Watchmaker’s Song” will be presented as drive-in-theatre-in-the-round in a parking lot at 2400 E. Cesar Chavez.
Set in part to Duke Ellington’s jazzy rendition of the original Tchaikovsky music, “The Watchmaker’s Song” is a poetic blend of components from the ballet and the original story by E.T.A. Hoffman.
“It feels important to adapt our holiday traditions into stories that reflect our times,” said Ventana co-artistic director Jerreme Rodriguez.
Performances are Dec. 11-12 and Dec. 18-19. Capacity is capped at 20 cars per event. All tickets must be purchased in advance, no walk-ups. Tickets are $25 per driver, and $25 for each additional passenger.
