Bloomberg Philanthropies awards 26 Austin Arts Groups with Grants

Bloomberg Philanthropies has awarded 26 Austin arts and cultural groups grants from its Arts Innovation and Management program.

The $43 million multi-year Bloomberg AIM initiative is designed to offer organizational capacity and programming support to small and mid-size cultural organizations in seven cities: Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Denver, New Orleans, Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C.

The Bloomberg AIM awards offer unrestricted general operating support as well as arts management training in areas that include fundraising, strategic planning and marketing. The grants are unrestricted. Participating organizations must match  their AIM grant by 20%.

“The arts inspire people, provide jobs, and strengthen communities,” said Michael R. Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg Philanthropies. “This program is aimed at helping some of the country’s most exciting cultural organizations reach new audiences and expand their impact.”

In July, Bloomberg Philanthropies announced that Austin was a finalist for its $1 million Public Art Challenge.

Rebecca Campbell, CEO of Austin Film Society said, “Bloomberg Philanthropies’ investment in AFS provides critical support as we build our organizational capacity to meet Austin’s growing needs as a film and creative hub. We look forward to working even more closely with our incredible board of directors on our strategic growth as a result of this award.”

Austin Shakespeare received a $45,000 Bloomberg AIM grant. Artistic director Ann Ciccolella said: “Everyone at Austin Shakespeare is thrilled and honored to be selected for the AIM program.  Having other arts organizations participate in Austin will only strengthen our efforts to spread the word about the quality of arts programming in our growing city.
