Big Medium launches online catalog documenting Austin artists

The Artists Registry is an ongoing digital platform for artists and artisans to showcase their work

Probably the best souvenir of Big Medium’s East Austin Studio and West Austin Studio Tour each year was the hefty full-color illustrated catalog, a veritable directory of Austin’s visual artists.

Last week, Big Medium announced that the two tours would be merged in to one Austin Studio Tour this year. And while the tour will be mostly digital, yes, there will be a catalog published in a limited edition of 3,000.

Now, in separate initiative, Big Medium has unveiled the Artists Registry, an ongoing digital platform for artists and artisans to showcase their work year round. The Registry is an online catalog that documents work by artists and artisans across Austin and is searchable by medium, subject, and even an art consultant-friendly palette category.

The registry, Big Medium said in its announcement, “not only encourages the collection of local art, but creates connections that strengthen our community around the creative practice.”

Joining the registry is part of Big Medium’s Creative Standard artist membership program which is $50 annually. However this year, in response to the pandemic, fees will waived for those who would like to join for free. See artistregistry.bigmedium.org/join
